CDxPRA
Postgraduate Research Awards
NOTE: The CRC for Diagnostics formally ceased operations in September 2007. Some of the research programs formed the basis of a new CRC for Biomarker Translation.
The new CRC will develop antibody-based therapeutics and diagnostic tests that target cell surface molecules (biomarkers) expressed by white blood cells or cancer cells. These antibodies or “magic bullets" target the cells involved in major diseases, including autoimmune disease and cancers. The new therapies and tests are expected to transform the management of these diseases and make Australia a competitive force in the rapidly growing, multi-billion dollar antibody therapeutic market.
For further details, contact Professor Mark Hogarth Tel +61 03 9287 0685 or email pmhogarth@burnet.edu.au
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE SCHOLARSHIP ENQUIRIES OR SUBMIT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS TO MEMBERS OF THE DISCONTINUED CRC FOR DIAGNOSTICS.
The CRC for Diagnostics (CDx) provided
scholarships for students engaged in research projects for
higher degrees (PhD and Masters reserach degrees). Students
were enrolled in any Australian university, but the project
must be performed primarily in CDx laboratories and under
supervision from CDx staff. Postgraduate research projects
and CDxPRA awards were available only within CDx-approved
research project areas for which ongoing research funding
had been committed.
The scholarship stipend provided
by the CDx was equivalent to the generous Australian Postgraduate
Award - Industry (APA-I) stipend and was incremented annually. The
scholarship was provided for a period of three years (full-time
study) subject to satisfactory progress, with possible extensions
for up to 6 months for valid reasons. In addition, a AUD$5,000
p.a. consumables allowance accompanied each CDxPRA scholarship.
Applications for CDxPRAs were highly competitive, with offers
made preferentially to students who already had secured
another tertiary scholarship, such as an Australian Postgraduate
Award (APA) - see below. All Australian
residents applying for a CDxPRA who did not already have
a university APA were expected also to apply for either
an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or other scholarship
from any of the participating universities. If such
applications were successful, the CDxPRA offer was modified
to take the form of a suppliment to raise the APA stipend
(approx. AUD$19,000) to the APA-I rate.
CDxPRA
scholarship application forms were downloaded from
this page. However, prospective applicants (especially international
students) were strongly urged to read the other information
(see menu above) to confirm eligibility and timing/process
and contact the Education and Training Program Director
Dr Ron Epping before
submitting a completed CDxPRA scholarship application form.
Completed application forms were sent to the address
indicated on the forms.
APA Australian Postgraduate
Awards
Australian Postgraduate Awards are
offered at all Australian Universities to Australian residents
only. Each university has its own criteria to decide how
these limited number of scholarships are allocated. In most
cases, a single form is used to apply for a variety of university
postgraduate scholarships.
University scholarship application
forms were available upon request from the following:
Applicants were advised to discuss
the application process with the contacts provided, as differences
in process may exist between universities, and that the deadline for receipt of scholarship
applications by most Universities is Mid October !
